Woman in Innovation: Ursula Kohler
"Talk about it, write about it, connect with the right people..."

Each Wednesday we interview women in our community about innovation and what drives them to make a difference in their industries everyday!

What are you working on?

A number of client needs all at once ;-)!! Being Canberra’s only high-level executive support service, we’re busy coordinating diaries, corresponding with many, attending board meetings and working with CEO’s to help find the right executive assistant for them, as well as conducting workshops, training and coaching for executive assistants to remind them how amazing and rewarding this career is. We also work with different organisations, including not-for-profit organisations, assisting them with everything from secretariat needs through to coordinating their events. We have over 40 years’ experience working with senior executives and some of Australia’s most highly-regarded individuals. We’re so lucky to work with incredibly talented people, which in turn provides us with the opportunity to continue to learn and to gain further insights into the business world each and every day and across all sectors.

Why is innovation important to you?

For the very reason we’re in business at all! Our work is all about being innovative. We are constantly thinking up clever ideas to make people’s lives easier and by natural virtue we are creating innovation as we go. Working virtually requires a lot of innovation, not only to ensure you remain connected, close and supportive but also to ensure you’re seen, heard and present at all times.

What drives you to make a difference?

As people in support roles, it’s what we work for and quite often live for. People like us consider it an honour to work and support positive change in Australia. We’re so lucky to have seen first-hand so many incredible developments roll out and changes to our economy overall. I always wonder what we will look like in 2040!

Do you have any advice for getting more women into the innovation ecosystem?

If you’ve got an idea you think would be fabulous or if you want to explore your options, then don’t hold back and second think it anymore. Put yourself and whatever else you’ve thought of out there and see where it takes you! Talk about it, write about it, connect with the right people about it. If you really think it’s wonderful, then in all likelihood it is, and so will others. Before you know it, they will be talking about it, sharing and connecting with it too! Never underestimate where it might take you. What have you got to lose?
