INNOVATION CONFERENCE

Exploring how aquaporins can solve food and water challenges

Aquaporins are present in every kingdom of life and they are famous for their water channel activity, with a wide array of potential applications including plant productivity, preventing human diseases, converting waste water into clean drinking water as well as advancing the function of soft robots and membrane separation technologies.

We are facing great challenges in the food and water security space and researchers around the world are working on understanding aquaporin function and engineering these proteins to deliver biotechnological solutions to these challenges.

Take part this November in the Aquaporin Solutions Innovation Conference.

2 - 23 November 2020Online Event

Understanding Aquaporin RegulationMonday 2nd November
4:00pm - 6:00pm

Characterising Plant Aquaporin FunctionsTuesday 10th November
4:00pm - 6:00pm

Using Aquaporins to Solve Real World ProblemsMonday 16th November
4:00pm - 6:00pm

Pitching Ideas for Solving Aquaporin MysteriesMonday 23rd November

With support from the Australia-Japan Foundation we would like to invite participants from all fields with an interest in designing innovative technologies, studying aquaporin physiological roles, exploring the regulation and characterization of aquaporins and the applications of engineering aquaporins.

Why get involved?

  • Hear about the latest developments in controlling water relationscell signaling and regulation of hydraulics in plants
  • Discover new directions in technology development for water filtration. These technologies are used to purify astronaut waste water in space and can help us sure up our future water security on Earth
  • Learn about the link between aquaporin function and cancer cell metastasis
  • Discuss the roles of aquaporins in influencing crop physiology
  • Discover how imaging the movement of element isotopes and fluorescent tracers can be used to understand aquaporin function
  • Build your knowledge in understanding how aquaporins help living cells tolerate osmotic stress and how we can use this information to create the biotechnologies of the future!

You will come out of this series of interactive sessions with an increased understanding of aquaporins and their applications to solve industry challenges. Expand your networks with leaders in the field and have conversations that start genuine collaborations.

Early career academics can pitch collaborations in the final session based on the discussions during the series.
