Each Wednesday we interview women in our community about innovation and what drives them to make a difference in their industries everyday!
What are you working on?
I am the business owner and fashion designer for MAAK clothing. I run and operate the label all on my own. From patterns, all the way through production and business operations. I only started my label a year ago and so far, I’ve worked with internationally known musicians such as Vera Blue, Hands Like Houses, Boo Seeka and Hayley from The Jezebels.
I am working towards a better fashion future for our fashion industry’s waste problem. I am working closely with Aussie3D to work towards a better future in fashion designing. In the world we live in today, we see mass consumption and through our consumption we tend to waste, fashion being the 2nd largest industry to discard of goods to landfill. With the benefits of 3D printing we can work to create an all-natural filament with the exact same benefits of synthetic manmade fibres that can help preserve the earth with mass consumption. 3D printing has a lot of benefits within the industry, one being it can be mass customised, can be less wasteful, innovative and can give more opportunity for creatives in small businesses. Everything is 100% Australian made and can be mass manufactured within your home.
Unfortunately, in today’s time we can only find mainly synthetic fibres but experts are working towards sustainable fabrics as we speak. This kind of technology will be available to us in the future.
Why is innovation important to you?
With innovation, we can make a better future, this project I’m working on will be beneficial for our future fashion pollution and future small businesses. People in the same position would be able to mass customise, mass manufacture. This will help prevent unfair trade overseas, stop land fill pollution within the fashion industry. The list goes on.
What drives you to make a difference?
For the future of our fashion industry to make a change in climate change. For the present time, we can create pieces that fits you perfectly to your dimensions, no more standard sizing no more one foot being bigger than the other. WE HAVE THE FUTURE OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IN OUR HANDS!
Do you have any advice for getting more women into the innovation ecosystem?
What you do today will benefit the future for tomorrow.
