We’re highlighting our business’ strongest asset: our wonderful team!
Here at the Canberra Innovation Network, we are passionate about innovation and are here to help you make an impact and change the world. Our team is full of clever, connected and creative people and we’re excited to introduce you to our Reception & Events Support superstar, Hayley Maddox.
Explain what you do at CBRIN in 25 words or less.
I give everyone a warm welcome, feed the people, lots of arts and crafts and tidy up (just call me mum ?)
Tell us about what you are working on at the moment.
Nothing too exciting just tidying the various nooks and cupboards around CBRIN. I’m also on the hunt for some fun ways to engage our coworking community (check out the wishing wall ⭐️ in the kitchen if you haven’t already)
Who or what inspires you?
The whole CBRIN team! What an incredibly passionate, intelligent and genuine group of people.
I’m also lucky enough to have a support network or fabulous women who inspire and encourage me every day.
What’s your favourite book or podcast?
At the moment I’m reading, albeit very slowly, UNTAMED by Glennon Doyle. I also I also enjoy listening to murder mystery and various “self-improvement” type podcasts.
What are you most passionate about?
People! Although I’m fairly quiet by nature and would call myself an introvert, I absolutely love loving people.
If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be and why?
Toe socks. I remember being obsessed in primary school but why? How uncomfortable and really not great looking either. Thank goodness social media wasn’t around while I was growing up ??
Drink of choice?
I love a good hot choccie, peppermint tea or chai latte ☕️
What do you work towards in your free time?
With a million kids my free time is mostly taken up driving them to their various activities, and of course motherhood has pushed me to try and be a better me with every day that goes by.
I’ve also recently discovered a love for refurbishing wooden furniture. My idea was to flip and sell, though I haven’t quite gotten as far as selling yet… Maybe one day!
What’s the coolest innovation you’ve read or heard about lately?
At the Parliament of Youth stall a few weeks ago one of the children came up with the idea of sustainable prosthetic limbs. He hadn’t quite worked out the logistics but was thinking either made from recycled material, made to be fully recyclable or even biodegradable. So fabulous!
What is something that never fails to make you smile?
Other people’s smiles! And the crazy/silly/wild things my kids do ? sometimes you’ve gotta laugh and let it go
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Not on Netflix but I’m playing catch up on this year’s farmer wants a wife.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that we may not know.
Prior to having children I was a full time dance teacher and performer.
If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?
Black – super useful!
Thanks, Hayley! You can connect with Hayley on LinkedIn or find her when you first walk into the Canberra Innovation Network!
