"Continue to seek new challenges that broaden your horizons."

We interview women in our community about innovation and what drives them to make a difference in their industries. This week we spoke to Dr Lyndal Thorburn.

What are your big wins/challenges since we last spoke?

I have extended my involvement in mentoring startups beyond the ACT and am now mentoring companies based in NSW and Victoria.

I have been appointed to the boards of Charles Sturt University, the Fisheries R&D Corporation and Regional Development Australia (ACT). These boards provide opportunities to apply my skills at local, state and national levels and offer new challenges in governance of government-funded organisations in the context of economic change and new focuses on commercial outcomes of research and education.

What advice would you give yourself 5 years ago?

Continue to seek new challenges that broaden your horizons

What do you want to ask your future self?

What was the long-term impact of your time spent on your current three boards?

What are you proud of right now?

I have been asked to speak at a conference later in 2022 about the changes I have made as a voluntary leader of a not-for-profit study group (unrelated to my board roles), as an example of how these study groups might evolve into the future.
