We interview women in our community about innovation and what drives them to make a difference in their industries (check out other articles here). We spoke to Liz Lea from ShowGO to find out where she is now.
What are your big wins/challenges since we last spoke?
We have been developing the App over a period of three years in between pauses for the pandemic and other work so it is slowly developing. We are also seeking feedback from people with lived experience as to what it can offer and the most efficient and intuitive way it works.
My collaborators, Stripy Sock are brilliant. Very busy but always ready to answer a call or a question and I am super excited about how the App is shaping up and the different elements of access it can hopefully offer.
We have been developing our design and a team of people to work with us and balancing the different elements within the current economical landscape has been a delicate process but we are getting there.
Working with Mill House Ventures has been fundamental in our progress and at the end of last year ShowGO was a finalist in the Enterprising Women awards, with a pitch event happening at Parliament House. It was a huge boost and thrill to be part of it alongside some excellent and brilliant female pioneers.

What advice would you give to yourself 5 years ago?
Just go for it – dream big and don’t be afraid to re-skill and up-skill in new areas outside of dance. I would also encourage myself to reach out to colleagues for help and advice. I’m accustomed to working with a strong team of people in my dance practice and I am so enjoying ways in which these same people can feed into the development of the App alongside new colleagues and collaborators.
What do you want to ask your future self?
Can you take a chill pill?
Shameless Plug/What are you proud of right now?
I am deeply proud of facilitating Audio Description for contemporary dance being offered for the first time at the Sydney Opera House. This took place last year in partnership with Sydney Dance Company and I’ve just sent a few days in the studio with them developing the description for their new work Momenta which premieres 28th May.
