The Basics
Expert Guidance
Work with technical specialists who can advise on material selection, manufacturing approaches, and troubleshooting during fabrication.
A smaller portion of your voucher (up to 20%) can support design refinement
Fabrication & Equipment Access
The majority of your voucher (around 80%) goes toward time with experts and on machines:
3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, electronics labs, and other specialised equipment across our partner facilities
You provide
Your design and cover your own material costs (filament, metal, etc.)
Note: This program is for physical prototypes only — not software or digital products
Lay the Foundation
Use your prototype to set up the next step in your journey
Make the ACT more equitable and sustainable by tackling real-world problems
Eligibility criteria:
- Be Canberra based;
- Have an innovative product that needs further prototyping with a preferred Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 1-4;
- Have an ABN (necessary for the funding agreement);
- and agree to our PVP Guidelines
Good fit:
- Design and concept already established
- Need fabrication equipment you can't otherwise access
- Based in Canberra with an ABN
Not quite ready:
- Still in the early idea stage
- Need significant design help to develop your concept

More Information
Applications are assessed by the Steering Committee, which includes representatives from each partner institution. The Canberra Innovation Network administers the vouchers on behalf of ANU, CIT, UC, UNSW Canberra, and the ACT Government. Review the voucher guidelines before applying.

2. Submit your application

3. Steering Committee assesses application
Meeting monthly to evaluate projects' eligibility and readiness, eligible applicants will be invited to pitch
4. Pitch your application
2-3 minute pitch to the Steering Committee, followed by Q&A - a chance to learn about the facilities and discuss details
5. Get assigned to an institution, fill out voucher agreement and survey
Recipients will be assigned a partner institution based on their prototyping needs, voucher agreement signed
6. Get to work!
You'll be connected with the prototyping facility so you can get started, no payment required aside from material costs
