We interview women in our community about innovation and what drives them to make a difference in their industries. This week we spoke to Helia Homayouni, Co-founder and COO of Rexergy.
What are you working on?
I am the co-founder and COO of Rexergy. At Rexergy, we work toward optimising energy usage for small business with high energy usage using state of the art technology. We are creating a world where the energy user has the power to influence the energy market and see a significant reduction in non-renewable energy.
Why is innovation important to you?
For me, innovation means change, opposing the status quo, and moving forward. It is part of being an entrepreneur. If things are not working out, if it is not good enough, come up with a better way. It is just part of who I am. As a business owner, innovation is even more critical; it can bring on efficiency; it is what increases competitiveness.
What drives you to make a difference?
High costs of energy on both our environment and our economy is indicating that it is time for a change.
Do you have any advice for getting more women into the innovation ecosystem?
In any field that you’re working, at any age, if you’re thinking about starting something, now is the best time, it is not too late, it is not too early, and it is necessary.
