We are passionate about giving back to the community at the Canberra Innovation Network. That’s why we will donate $5 for every attendee at our Innovation Showcase to local Canberra organisations. We chose the organisations that best embody our values of being clever, connected and creative.
We would like to introduce our first organisation, YWCA Canberra which represents the clever area of CBRIN.
YWCA Canberra is a feminist not-for-profit organisation that has provided community services and represented women’s issues in Canberra since 1929.
‘We strengthen communities by supporting girls and women through our services and advocacy’ and our vision is ‘Girls and women thriving’.
They provide essential, quality services for women, girls and families in the ACT and surrounding regions. They work in the areas of children’s services, community development, homelessness and affordable housing, domestic and family violence, youth services, personal and professional training, women’s leadership and advocacy.
YWCA Canberra is also proud to be part of the World YWCA network, which connects over 100 countries across the globe. The purpose of World YWCA is to develop the leadership and collective power of women and girls around the world to achieve justice, peace, health, human dignity, freedom and a sustainable environment for all people.
As one of the world’s largest women’s organisations, YWCAs have a global outreach of 25 million women and girls.
Within this international movement, YWCA Canberra seeks to play its part in working for a world where reconciliation, justice, peace, health, human dignity, freedom and care for the environment are promoted and sustained through women’s leadership.
Following the success of its internship program, World YWCA also started the Young Women Leadership Cohort Programme in 2019. This program provides an opportunity for young women from the YWCA movement to experience the international community-building, work and reach of World YWCA.
