With the GRIFFIN Accelerator Cohort of 2019 launched and underway, it is now time to introduce the entrepreneurs involved.
We asked Kate Freeman, founder of the Healthy Eating Hub some questions about her business and her expectations of the next 12 weeks.
How would you explain your company to a toddler?
We help people to be healthy eaters for their whole life by teaching them one healthy habit at a time!
How would you explain your company to an investor?
We’re aiming to disrupt the nutrition and dietetic industry and have created a highly scalable product that teaches people long term, sustainable healthy eating habits that last a lifetime. Our program works through incremental behaviour change, micro learning and ongoing support with a qualified nutritionist.
Our program is the first of its kind in Australia and takes a unique approach to improving individual’s health through diet.
What made you start your business? Was there a turning point that helped you take the leap?
While I was on maternity leave with my kids I created a healthy eating blog that grew to the point that people started paying me for advice. When the time came to go back to work, I took the plunge and resigned from the public service and opened my private practice in Canberra City.
The turning point for me was when I started booking out 2 nights a week at my home. At that point I knew that I could book enough appointments to pay for the office in the city, so I took the leap. That was 7 years ago. I now have two dedicated locations in Canberra and 7 staff!
What part of being in GRIFFIN are you most excited about?
To learn first hand from people who have scaled their businesses and have the support and guidance to do the same.
What part of GRIFFIN are you most scared of?
Not finding an investor and/or I discover that my idea is not scalable! That would be pretty sad. However, I’d rather try and fail, than not try at all.
What do you expect to achieve and learn in this program over the next 12 weeks?
How to find an investor. How to scale a SAAS based business. How to create a business and marketing strategy for my particular product and not go crazy in the process!
Which movie or television character best describes your business personality?
Anne Hathaway’s character from The Intern!
How can we find you on social media?
