Investing in women, it’s about more than money.

Every second month the Canberra Innovation Network celebrates Female Founders. These inclusive events are part of our ambition to diversify the innovation community and cultivate a safe and inclusive space for ideas, leadership, opportunities, and teams.
In Australia, the percentage of female-founded businesses continues to fall behind, a study done by the ASBFEO office attributes this to a lack of access to funding opportunities. The Canberra Innovation Network is dedicated to bridging this gap and encouraging women, and other members of the LGBTQI+ community, to feel empowered in business through the innovation community and the opportunities we present.
On the 13th of September from 12:15PM to 1:30PM the we will be pulling back the curtain on investing in female-founded businesses and giving women the opportunity to learn about becoming an investor or seeking investment. The event will include a panel featuring entrepreneurial academic Professor Tim Hirst, experienced venture capitalist and successful entrepreneur Elaine Stead and PWC Partner and Enterprise Architect Rosanne Brand.
This panel will be an inspiring opportunity for founders, start-ups, budding entrepreneurs, and anyone looking to learn about investment opportunities.
“Women bring powerful perspectives and insights that can be quite different to men. The key is balance and striving to gain perspectives from a range of people, considering gender, networks, technology expertise, business capability and background. Diversity brings strength.” – Rosanne Brand, PWC.
“We need the help of men to help us. When they are offered opportunities who do they first think to offer those opportunities to – men they know and have been comfortable with or women with powerful potential.” – Rosanne Brand, PWC.
“It’s important for us to be aware of linking women into those seeking mentors and investors. One of the challenges women have is being where opportunities or connections are being made, from personal and social networks to the board room” – Rosanne Brand, PWC.
