The Talent Unleashed Awards announced their APAC finalists and local startup Emudent has been named 2017 Finalist for the Best Idea – One to Watch category.

Founders Omar Zuaiter and Alaa Habeb will head to Melbourne on the 7th December and will be invited on stage to pitch live to the 250+ audience and the Judging Panel, which includes Steve Wozniak (Co-Founder Apple Inc.) for a chance to be named a Global Grand Prize Winner!

Emdudent was accepted into the 2017 GRIFFIN Accelerator, which is a 3-month intensive mentoring program to help ambitious startups raise capital investment and get on a high growth path.

Emudent is on a mission to reinvent dentistry. We have developed a patented cutting-edge concept to automate dental treatment and unleash the true potential of dentistry.

We sat down with Omar and Alaa to talk more about Emdudent.

Tell us about the team?

A nerd dentist who never accepts things as they are, and a geek engineer with a craze in micro robotics and a passion to change the world!

How did you initially come up with the idea for Emudent?

It all started with a casual chat. I was telling Alaa how frustrated I am from the lack of technology in dentistry and how this is affecting the productivity and driving costs and depriving hundreds of millions worldwide from proper dental care they deserve. Alaa calmly replied: Let’s change that! I though he was crazy. He followed up by a simple online search, a phone call to IP Australia and it took off from there.

Why is innovation important to you?

Innovation is solving enduring obstacles that made life harder for centuries. It is key to mankind’s prosperity and wellbeing. It is by innovation that we as individuals are more than ever able to make a difference not only to our society but to humanity at large.

What makes Canberra a good place for innovation?

The ecosystem in Canberra is so conducive to creativity and innovation. It is one of the most liveable and healthiest cities in the world. At the heart of the nation, we believe it will become the powerhouse of innovation in Australia. The networks here are so supporting and nourishing.

What are your goals for Emudent?

Simply put; reinventing dentistry. We hope that Emudent will set the foundation for computer assisted, mobile and remote dentistry. In future, your dentist will come to you wherever you are.
