On Wednesday 2nd December 2020, the Canberra Innovation Network will host its annual Innovation Showcase. This year the event will take an innovative turn, asking participants to tune in live by creating their very own office watch parties.

The Innovation Showcase will see 10 of Canberra’s hottest companies compete for two prizes in a high intensity 90 second pitch format.

Chief Executive of the Canberra Innovation Network Petr Adamek said, “this isn’t your typical investor pitch. The startups will be pitching to a high calibre of judges, they have to thoroughly prepare and discover how to best talk about their innovation in 90 seconds to a general audience.”

“We are encouraging the Canberra community to get involved by hosting their own watch parties and to tune in live from 3.00pm. All registered viewers will receive a downloadable party pack which includes sweeps, games, trivia, photo competition and voting instructions.”

The four Canberra judges will comprise of Professor Brian Schmidt, Nobel laureate for his discovery of dark energy and Vice Chancellor of the ANU. Genevieve Jacobs, a well-respected journalist, Group Editor of Region Media. John De Margheriti, CEO and Chairman of the Academy of Interactive Entertainment and Cindy Mitchell, ACT Woman of the Year and Founder and CEO of the Mill House Ventures.

Andy Miller, Founder of Heaps Normal, who are normalising mindful drinking by brewing non-alcoholic beer has recently seen his company valuated at $7.2 million and is one of the startups competing. “I’m excited for the opportunity to pitch in front 4 amazing Canberra ‘sharks’ and to over 400 viewers who have registered to tune into the live event”

“We are all keen to take out the judges choice as there aren’t many opportunities where you get to pitch in front of Nobel Prize Winner, the Founding Father of Australia’s video games industry, a well-known broadcaster and the ACT Women of the year” said Andy Miller.
