Here at the Canberra Innovation Network, we’re passionate about innovation and are here to help you make an impact and change the world. Our team is full of clever, connected, and creative people and we’re excited to introduce you to our new Collaborative Innovation Officer, Courtney Kovac.
Explain what you do at CBRIN in 25 words or less.
I design, coordinate and facilitate CBRINs Hackathons and Collaborative Innovation Labs. These events focus on bringing diverse groups of people together to innovatively solve problems.
Tell us about what you are working on at the moment.
Currently, I am working on our 3rd annual SpaceHack event! This years Cybersecurity Edition will see teams compete to come up with the best innovative solutions to the most pressing cybersecurity issues in space tech and industry.
Who or what inspires you?
Honestly, it’s not one person who inspires me but rather just humans as a collective. I love seeing a group of people getting excited about a new idea or supporting one another through something hard. I think magic happens when we work as a collective and I find that incredibly inspiring.
What’s your favourite book or podcast?
I absolutely love reading fantasy! Magic, complex characters and hidden worlds are my jam.
What are you most passionate about?
Helping people <3
If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be and why?
Social media… I know it has enhanced connectivity among many other things but all the unforeseen harmful impacts that its had doesn’t feel worth it to me.
What’s your go-to coffee order?
I cannot say no to a coffee at a cafe first thing in the morning. No matter how long its been since pay day!
What do you work towards in your free time?
Contentment! I try to use my free time to fill my cup and do things that make me feel like me.
What’s the coolest innovation you’ve read or heard about lately?
I love biomimicry. Solving problems using what nature already uses to solve problems? Love it.
What is something that never fails to make you smile?
Seeing people hug at airports, talking in silly voices and people falling over.
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
I am watching New Girl for the 20th time and Ted Lasso for the 2nd time.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that we may not know?
I have a really good memory for sounds. You’ll often find me singing ad jingles and randomly sharing one liners that have been said in weird voices.
