Meet the Team: Hala

We’re highlighting our business’ strongest asset: our wonderful team!

Here at the Canberra Innovation Network, we’re passionate about innovation and are here to help you make an impact and change the world. Our team is full of clever, connected and creative people and we’re excited to introduce you to the Chair of our Board, Hala Batainah.

Explain what you do at CBRIN.
As Chair, it is my privilege to provide leadership and coaching to CBRIN’s team. My responsibilities focus on ensuring CBRIN’s purpose, vision, mission, and obligations are fulfilled to the highest standard. This is delivered with engagement through the Board of Directors, CBRIN executive and staff, member organisations, sponsors, ecosystem and the ACT Government.

Tell us about what you’re working on at the moment.
Focusing on the support, coaching and assistance that is required for CBRIN staff to continue to perform the outstanding services they provide to our community during COVID lockdowns and beyond.

Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by everyday people solving wicked problems that move humanity forward. And kids everywhere.

What’s your favourite book or podcast?
Podcasts: Lead from the Heart with Mark C. Crowley; Sounds True by Tami Simon and Love in Action by Marcel Schwantes.

Books: Too many to list! However, the one I do keep coming back to is The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran; I learn something new every time I read it.

What are you most passionate about?
So many things! I will give extra of myself to people who want to make a difference — for themselves, their community and their work. Those who are disadvantaged in our community and kids who are not able to access digital capabilities.

If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be and why?
Facebook. No need to explain.

Drink of choice?
Almond milk chai latte, extra hot.

What do you work towards in your free time?
Flexibility — mentally and physically.

What’s the coolest innovation you’ve read or heard about lately?
I’m excited about the potential of quantum computing.

What is something that never fails to make you smile?
Canberra’s blue sky days.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Baking shows with my daughter.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that we may not know.
I can’t whistle.

If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?
Blue — you can do so much with it! Sky, ocean, flowers…
