Meet the team: Jack Cassidy

We’re highlighting our business’ strongest asset: our wonderful team!

Here at the Canberra Innovation Network, we’re passionate about innovation and are here to help you make an impact and change the world. Our team is full of clever, connected, and creative people and we’re excited to introduce you to our newest member, Jack Cassidy.

Explain what you do at CBRIN in 25 words or less.

I design and deliver collaborative events, challenges, and hackathons to help the community address difficult problems.

Tell us about what you are working on at the moment.

I just started at CBRIN, so at the moment I am working on getting to know the team and learning where I fit into the wider framework.

Who or what inspires you?

Hamish and Andy! They are well meaning, kind, cheeky, and hilarious. They seem truly content with the lives they’ve built and that inspires me to pursue my own dreams.

What’s your favourite book or podcast?

Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton. It is a story of mystery and intrigue brimming with lessons about family, hope, naivety, and loyalty. Above all, it’s a story about love and the value of vulnerability.

What are you most passionate about?

The relationships in my life. I am who I am because of my communities. I work hard to free up the time and energy to invest in my relationships because they mean everything to me.

If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be and why?

Slavery. Terrible idea.

What’s your drink of choice?

Elderflower cordial, gin, and soda over ice with a red and white striped paper straw.

What do you work towards in your free time?

I am an avid rock-climber. I spend a lot of my free time either climbing or justifying to my partner why I am about to go climbing.

What’s the coolest innovation you’ve read or heard about lately?

SQC’s atomic alignment technology which they are using to produce quantum computing parts that are tenths of a nanometer wide.

What is something that never fails to make you smile?

I used to work at a bar and people would often order a beer and a wine. I would pour the drinks, put them on the bar, and then point at the wine and say, ‘that’s the wine’ and point at the beer and say, ‘that’s the beer’. Some people would laugh at how painfully obvious that is. Others would just look bewildered. Both reactions brought me joy.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?

I just finished ‘See’ with Jason Momoa. To clarify, we didn’t watch the show together, he stars in it. Gripping concept, brilliant dialogue, gorgeous setting. Definitely worth a watch.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that we may not know?

When I was 15 years old there was a six-month period where I could blow air out my left ear.

If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?

Atomic tangerine

Thanks, Jack! You can connect with Jack at our office in the city.
