Meet the Team: Grace

We’re highlighting our business’ strongest asset: our wonderful team!

Here at the Canberra Innovation Network, we’re passionate about innovation and are here to help you make an impact and change the world. Our team is full of clever, connected and creative people and we’re excited to introduce you to our Marketing and Communications Officer, Grace Carr.

Explain what you do at CBRIN.
I help get the word out about all the cool things we do!

Tell us about what you’re working on at the moment.
There’s some great events and opportunities coming up that I am really excited to share with the community.

Who or what inspires you?
I am very inspired by Jameela Jamil, you may know her from The Good Place, and Taylor Swift. Jameela is a major advocate for mental health and Taylor has done so much for the music industry, women and acted as my emotional support since I was 13.

What’s your favourite book or podcast?
Jameela Jamil’s podcast Iweigh! The concept is based around a movement that encourages people to weigh themselves in their interests and values rather than pounds or kilos. Jameela interviews a myriad of personalities from Jane Fonda to Gloria Steinham and chats about mental health and other social issues. Episodes are often topical and she explains what’s happening in the world.
It’s been a really helpful resource, especially during the pandemic.

What are you most passionate about?
My family, to me this includes my friends and my pets.

If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be and why?
Modern design features like boring grey, silver and black tech! Bring back the 50’s pastel fridges, bright 70’s orange phones and 90’s see-through coloured tech like the old macs and gameboys!

Drink of choice?
Before 5pm, a strong latte and after 5 I will take a G&T

What do you work towards in your free time?
Nothing really, I like to just exist when I can. I care for my dogs, check in with my loved ones, and look after myself. I think it’s important to let my mind rest and revive.

What’s the coolest innovation you’ve read or heard about lately?
There’s a local charity I support, ACT Pet Crisis Support, they raise money to help people pay vet bills. The concept is simple but the impact is huge. Having help like this available means more people can adopt and rescue animals without needing to worry about the unexpected costs that can arise.

What is something that never fails to make you smile?
My dogs, I have a rescue greyhound named Flash and a Greyhound x Kelpie puppy named Winston. I love walking them, watching them play, and getting morning cuddles.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?
I’ve been watching a lot of the new Marvel shows, loved Loki and Wandavision.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that we may not know.
I have a background in theatre, both directing, performing and teaching. Recently I directed some children’s theatre shows in Canberra.

If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?
Green.

Thanks, Grace! You can connect with her on LinkedIn or meet her at our office in Civic.
